Irrigation system installation and service
At Western Roots Landscape we pride ourselves on using the best installation practices and parts, not on meeting the industry required minimums. We stand behind the work and parts that we use and will back it up with a 5 year warranty.
We take the time to properly design your system so each zone of your sprinkler system is matched to the plants and microclimate. Different micro-climates around your house are created by perpetually shady areas on the north sides of houses or fences, sunny aspects that have a lot of southern exposure, different soil types and topography that can channel cooler air.
Your irrigation system will be engineered from the start by measuring available water pressure and flow so that each zone of your system will not exceed these parameters. The result of overextended zones that have too many heads/ too much flow is water hammer; this is phenomenon is caused by fast moving water suddenly coming to a stop due to quickly closing valve(s). This column of water dissipates that kinetic energy through shock waves that will damage components in the sprinkler system but can also travel through the plumbing to damage components in your house, usually toilet tank re-fill valves and feed lines to washing machines & refrigerators.
We also use components to make your system work at it's most efficient pressure. Overpressure can cause spray heads to use water at 2x the rate at which they are designed. This causes spray heads to throw water as a mist rather than large droplets, this mist gets carried away by breezes and will evaporate much more readily so you lose that water before it has even had a chance to get into the soil. We accomplish pressure regulation through several means.
System wide - if you're static pressure is more than 80 psi we recommend a pressure regulating valve (PRV)
At the valve - Western Roots uses flow control valves for spray and rotor zones exclusively. After the system is installed we tune each valve using the flow control so that the zone flow is matched to the zone design, this helps regulate pressure but it prolongs the valve components life by limiting the water flowing through it.
At the head - systems that have various sprinkler types that have different pressure needs or on hillsides require pressure regulation at the head. We also use check valve heads on hillsides to reduce the amount of water lost due to laterals draining out.
We believe in using best practices on every pvc joint we glue and thread. This means every cut is square to the pipe ensuring the pipe fully seated in every fitting, beveling the pipe (not doing so will leave a ridge that pushes glue out of where it needs to be) properly gluing and priming the pipe and fittings and wiping excess glue after the pipe has been put into the fitting.
At Western Roots Landscape we use all the tools at our disposal on crafting efficient irrigation systems and water conservation from smart, weather based controllers, pressure regulation, proper hydro-zoning and landscape design that places plants in the spaces where they will do their best. We are proud of the work we do and will stand behind it with our 5 year sprinkler system warranty.
Irrigation system services
Irrigation system leaks detected and repaired
Faulty controllers repaired or replaced
Wiring faults located and repaired
Pressure issues diagnosed and resolved
Missing valves located
System additions - heads moved or added, additional zones added to the sprinkler system
Water efficiency up-grades
Many newer controllers on the market have the capability to connect to Noaa weather data or local weather stations to adjust sprinkler run times up or down depending on precipitation and temperatures. Rainbirds LNK wireless cartridge can allow the controller to turn the daily watering down 90% and up to 150% of the baseline run times.
City of Portland Water District and Tualatin Valley Water District customers may qualify for a rebate on water saving devices such as smart controllers and rotary nozzles.
